2 hours from Rio and known as "the capital of surf" in Brazil
half way to Búzios and 1 hour to Cabo Frio or Arraial do Cabo.

Lovely 2-day side trip to Saquarema. The 4-bed dorm room and the downstairs was spacious, clean and comfortable. The beach is a close 5 min. walk, with restaurants and a great view of the Church in town. Quiet streets, horses grazing, 40 miles of beautiful beach and huge surf (can hear the surf from the balcony at certain times). We walked everywhere from the hostel, safely, even at night. Jose was a great, laid back host who was interesting to get to know. Would definitely go back.

Saqua hostel and surf is a very relaxed place. It's a nice and spacious house that offers everything you need. Jose is a really nice guy and very helpful! I stayed 3 nights and absolutely loved it, excellent place to chill out! Close to the beach and not too far from the supermarket. I definetely recommend it! !

We had such a great time at this hostel. Jose is a wonderful host and helped us with everything we needed. The beach is 3 minutes away and is pristine with great local restaurants and surfing, town is a 20 minute walk or 5 reals on a bicycle taxi. The rooms are spacious, there is a great book and dvd collection in the lounge and you are able to hire surf boards or boogie boards to take down to the beach with you.

If you want to take it easy, this is te place to be. Located in a quiet town. There is a nice beach just few meters from the hostel and you will find very few people there. We stayed in a double room which was very nice with lots of space.

This is a great hostel. It's very relaxed and peaceful and close to the beach. Jose runs the hostel and is an excellent host. He really makes you feel at home. He's extremely helpful and does everything he can to make your stay more enjoyable. He even gave me a lift to Rio and fitted in with when I wanted to go. I highly recommend staying here.

Jose is great and really sets the mood for a chilled-out atmosphere. Most places of interest are accessable via bicycle or a short walk. The wireless internet is reliable and fast. The rooms are nice and there's cable TV, DVDs and a solid library that includes English texts. Overall, a solid value; I would visit Saqua Hostel again on a future visit.

If you need a place for relaxing, without any trouble: It`s Saqua Hostel & Surf in Saquarema. I was there in July 2010. Just a short walk to the beach, nice surfing teachers and great little hostel.

Excellent location, right on the beach. This is more of a guesthouse than a hostel but we loved that. There are only three bedrooms so only max 12 people in the house. The owner lives in his own flat on top floor and is really helpful. Would definitely stay here again!!

Muy buen hostel. Jose es muy amable. La locacion esta muy buena, un poco lejos de la estacion del bus stop, pero cerca a la playa. Es una casa pequeña, poca gente y con mucha privacidad. Definitivamente volveria a ese hostel.

Saqua Hostel is a really chilled out place with a great atmosphere. Good location 1.5 blocks to the beach and there are shops nearby. Only spent 3 nights there but througly enjoyed my stay. Jose is a great host and helped me out a lot.

The hostel was so laid back and comfortable, it felt like a second home. Jose was incredibly helpful, taught us a fair few things on brazilian culture and history. the dogs were an added bonus, so well behaved and friendly. If you are going to saquerama I strongly recommend you stay at Saqua Hostel

A very nice hostel. We stayed there for a week and had absolutely no complaints. The owner Ze from rio is the best! It is just one block from the beach. Since you live in a house with a beautiful garden you really get that "local" feeling. Go there

me and my mate went to saqua for 2 nights but stayed for a week.. the owner ze´ looked after us with anything we wanted to do and more.. great surf beach 100m away, shops, small bars are just around the corner.. the hostel was very clean and all his facilties worked properly.. (as alot of hostels promise what they dont have etc..) the owner has his own place in the backyard so the hostel/house is like your own pad.. its pretty great set up...
